Safe for whom? Dialogue with activists from Egypt, Tunisia, Bangladesh and Bosnia

The concepts of safe country of origin and safe third country are increasingly used by EU states, supported by the EU itself, to limit the right to seek asylum and to outsource protection obligations to third countries. Citizens3 of non-EU states who try to migrate and seek asylum – often the only way to stay in Europe regularly – run the serious risk of being deported to contexts where fundamental rights are not protected, where the democratic space is shrinking and the repression of dissent is increasingly violent.
