Wherever They Go/في كل مكا is a short documentary that highlights the transnational repression practices employed by Egyptian authorities against human rights defenders in the diaspora and exile. These defenders, while facing intimidation abroad, also see their families back home subjected to severe repression and constant security threats. The film seeks to answer a critical question: How do these activists continue their work under constant threat, even while in exile? It is based on interviews with Egyptian defenders in exile, and to ensure their safety and the safety of their families in Egypt, all interviews were conducted in audio format only, with identities withheld.

The film is produced by the Egyptian Human Rights Forum (EHRF) to highlight transnational repression against Egyptian human rights defenders. It is part of a broader report and campaign aimed at raising awareness of this phenomenon and its severe impact on defenders in exile and their families. The campaign seeks to urge decision-makers in the EU and other countries to demand that the Egyptian regime halt these systematic practices and take measures to protect human rights defenders.

Director: Mahmoud Elenani is an Egyptian film director and producer who has been living in exile since the age of 18. While in exile in Turkey, Mahmoud continued his activism through documentary film-making, focusing on raising awareness about injustices in the SWANA region, particularly human rights issues and the unjust imprisonment of women and children.  Mahmoud left Turkey and is now in exile again, this time in the Netherlands. Based in Amsterdam, he continues to use his filmmaking talents to advocate for human rights in Egypt. His films have been featured on platforms such as Al Jazeera, Amazon Prime, DW, and Alaraby TV. Mahmoud currently serves as the Executive Producer of Path 14, a nonprofit documentary platform dedicated to changing misleading narratives around migration.
